Governor Scott Walker announced today the creation of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) in the Department of Health Services.  The Office of the Inspector General will coordinate the agency’s fraud prevention efforts and help implement recommendations made by Governor Walker’s Commission on Waste, Fraud, and Abuse.

“Preventing waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars is a top priority of my administration, and the OIG will give the state a much needed tool to protect state taxpayers,” Governor Walker said in a press release announcing the new position.

Alan White will serve as the first OIG Director.  White previously served as Wisconsin Bureau of Program Integrity Director for 13 years, with a focus on identifying and stopping Medicaid provider fraud.
