The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) scheduled town hall meetings at Eau Claire, Milwaukee and Green Bay to solicit feedback about the BadgerCare Plus Demonstration Project Waiver request the agency will be making to the federal government. Governor Scott Walker signed the 2013-2015 State Budget with a minimal 57 vetoes. Walker used his veto power to remove unnecessary reporting requirements and clarify program intentions and timelines. Bail bondsmen is vetoed out of the budget, while the Kringle survived and is now the official State pastry. Governor Walker’s 57 vetoes reduce spending by an additional $865,000 over the biennium.

A nice way to commemorate America’s Independence aside from festivals, parades and fireworks, festivals, is thanking our veterans. In the famous words of Elmer Davis “this nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” It is great to extend a thank you to our brave military people serving our country and to the brave people that served our military.
Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's Six month Forecast, Wisconsin Moves from 49 to 20, Soaring 29 Positions
The Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank revised the leading index for April with Wisconsin improving nine increments for a total increase of 29 positions since the report, April 30, 2013. The leading index is a six month forecast of economic growth for the 50 states.
Last week, the United States Department of Agriculture approved our request to declare 24 Wisconsin counties as natural disaster areas. A freezing, thawing, and refreezing cycle, combined with excessive rain and snow, resulted in crop losses ranging from 30 to 70 percent in affected areas.
On Thursday, I signed Assembly Bill 181 which creates a venture capital program in our state. This legislation works to increase the amount of venture capital by directing the Department of Administration to create a new economic development program.
Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) is scheduled to host in person and online seminars about Wisconsin’s public records and open meeting laws. There is not a fee for the seminars and registration begins the first week of September.
