The Fur (& Feather!) Flyer

Established in 1965, HAWS assists over 6,000 animals and welcomes more than 31,000 human visitors annually. As an "open admissions" shelter we lead the community in animal welfare and assure sanctuary for all animals in need, regardless of age, health or temperament. HAWS is a non-profit, entirely donor-fund organization with an active humane education program, and both wildlife and companion animal rescue services for Waukesha County.

Summertime Fun With HAWS

HAWS, HAWS Waukesha, Humane society Waukesha, ice cream, ride

HAWS will be closed to viewing and adoptions on July 4th. Those needing assistance with lost or found animals that day should contact HAWS’ 24 hour, on-call Animal Rescue team at 262-542-8851.

Summer can be challenging for our pet friends. Never leave pets unattended in a car, as temperatures can quickly reach deadly levels. When pets must be outside, make sure they have protection from heat and sun and plenty of fresh, cool water. Watch for hot asphalt which can burn sensitive pet paws. Keep pets sheltered from fireworks and thunderstorms – they are most comfortable inside and away from the sudden noises. Waukesha County residents with concerns about a pet in their area should contact the Humane Officers at 262-896-8330.

Summer also brings an increase in lost pets! A microchip I.D. is your pet’s best chance to be reunited with you; while these are not GPS-tracking chips, they hold information that can be scanned when a pet is brought to any animal shelter. Plus they can’t be lost or slip off like a collar. Let HAWS ‘chip’ your pet for only $20!

HAWS’ Mobile Adoption Center brings happy tails to the community! July’s highlight is a special Ice Cream Social and 5% donation day at Good Harvest Market (7/12). More visits and details at
