The basics: Your guide to getting around

It doesn't matter whether you just moved into Muskego or whether you're a lifetime resident, here's your guide to just about everything you need to know about living in the city.

How do I change the address on my driver's license?

You can do this over the phone, through the mail or in person at the nearest state Department of Motor Vehicle location. The nearest DMV office is located at 400 S. West Ave. in Waukesha. If you'd rather do it via the mail or phone, you can get the details at the DMV's Web site.

How do I change my address with the Postal Service?

You can do this in person at the Muskego Post Office, S74W17000 Janesville Rd., or you can do it online at the Postal Service's Web site.

How do I register children for school?

The Muskego-Norway School District includes five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. To begin the enrollment process, the student's parent/guardian should go to the nearest school or call the district office at (262) 679-5400 or visit the district Web site.

When is the trash picked up?

Garbage is collected at each residence in the city once a week and must be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. During a holiday week, garbage pickup is delayed by one day. Click here for more information on garbage and recycling. Or call the Department of Public Works at (262) 679-4148.

What are the city's parking rules?

Winter restrictions prohibit the parking of any vehicle on any public street or highway in the City of Muskego between the hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. beginning December 1 and continuing through April 1, unless temporary parking is authorized by the police department. The fine for parking in violation of this ordinance is $33 for automobiles and $48 for trucks. Trucks are prohibited from overnight street parking throughout the entire year. Where is City Hall? What are the hours?

City Hall is located at W182 S8200 Racine Ave. It's open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Who are my local elected officials? How can I reach them?

Muskego's mayor is John R. Johnson. The Common Council consists of seven elected alderpersons. Click here for phone numbers and email addresses for all city officials.

Where is the local library? What are the library hours?

The Muskego Public Library is located at S73 W16663 Janesville Road in Muskego. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Sunday. Call (262) 971-2101 for more information.

How do I register to vote? Where do I vote?

You can register at the City Clerk's office at City Hall, W182 S8200 Racine Ave. In addition, you may register at the polling place on the day of the election, provided you have proper identification. Where can I learn more about merchants and shopping in Muskego?

Muskego is located in the far southeastern corner of Waukesha County. Plenty of shopping can be found in the commercial districts along Janesville Road between Moorland Road and Racine Avenue. Small specialty shops to department stores sell fine jewelry, musical instruments, gifts and cards, pet supplies and recreational vehicles. There's also a fresh farmers market.
