June 16, 2009 8:04 a.m. | The Muskego High School chorale and the wind ensembles have been selected to perform at the annual Wisconsin State Music Conference.
Two ensembles being chosen from one school has not happened in at least the last 15 years, choir director Matthew Wanner and band director James Beckman told the Muskego-Norway School Board last night.
They will perform Oct. 30 in the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison. Every year, music teachers from all over the state gather at the convention of the Wisconsin School Music Educators Association in part to hear top student musical groups perform.
The directors separately sent in performance CDs to be considered for selection. Both CDs were evaluated by separate panels of judges and both were chosen and both were slated for the prestigious Friday performance day.
"These were real acute ears that were listening," Beckman said. "This is a great affirmation."

Aug. 16, 2010 4:23 p.m. | Muskego — Residents who like to celebrate the Fourth of July with a bang won't be able to shoot off their fireworks as often as they do now, if the city approves new restrictions on the use of explosives.
Muskego is the only community in the metropolitan Milwaukee area that allows people to shoot off fireworks - as long as they have a permit. People can blast their colorful displays into the air every day, if they want, between July 1 and 7. They also can shoot them off anytime between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
Now Muskego officials are considering limiting the permits to three days or perhaps just on July 4.
"Seven days is just too much," said Police Chief Paul Geiszler.
In addition, hours would be limited to evenings - fireworks could only be discharged from 8 to 11 p.m.

Aug. 10, 2010 9:30 a.m. | Muskego — A combination of high costs and public opposition appears to have killed plans for a roundabout on Racine Avenue near Muskego High School.
Construction of the roundabout would cost about $1 million - nearly double the $550,000 to $600,000 cost of installing better traffic signals and making other improvements at the intersection of Racine Avenue and Woods Road, said Michael Grulke, project manager for the Waukesha County Department of Public Works.
"And there was pretty stiff opposition at the information meeting" last week, Grulke said.
At that Aug. 4 meeting at City Hall, residents were shown two options for the intersection and asked to give their opinions on both. About three-quarters of the people there opposed the roundabout, Grulke estimated.
Despite the cost, every time the county does significant work on an intersection, the state Department of Transportation wants it to consider a roundabout, Grulke said.

Aug. 05, 2010 12:04 p.m. | Muskego - A 76-year-old Muskego resident was found dead in a field from a single gunshot wound to the head Thursday morning, Muskego police said.
Police and rescue personnel were dispatched to the W12900 block of Ryan Road after someone called at 6:27 a.m. Thursday to report that a body was in an open field.
The incident is under investigation, police said. No other details, including the name and gender of the person, were available.

Aug. 04, 2010 4:20 p.m. | The public will be able to give their opinions about plans to create a multiple-lane roundabout at Racine Avenue and Woods Road or put in traffic lights at the intersection during a public information meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 4. The Waukesha County Department of Public Works will hold the meeting at the Muskego City Hall, S8200 Racine Ave.
No presentation will be made, but visitors can look at the plans for both options, ask questions and give opinions. More information is available from Michael Grulke, project manager, (262) 548-7740.

The Slow No Wake rule for Bass Bay will stay in effect until further notice.

July 26, 2010 12:10 p.m. | As of 10 a.m. today, Mayor John Johnson said the "slow, no wake" ban on Little Muskego Lake has been lifted. The ban will remain in effect for Lake Denoon and Big Muskego Lake until further notice.

July 25, 2010 5:16 p.m. | The Waukesha West baseball team shut down the powerful Muskego offense while their hitters came through in the clutch in defeating the Warriors, 8-4, this afternoon in a WIAA sectional final at Muskego.
The victory over the top-seeded Muskego sends West to the state tournament, where the team will face Germantown at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a quarterfinal game in Stevens Point.
The game was close throughout until the Wolverines exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Muskego hitters were able to tag starting pitcher Kurt Poquette for four runs before he was taken out in the fifth.
However, reliever Jeff Neuman shut down Muskego the rest of the way, scattering one hit over the final three innings.
