Holy Apostles will dish up

community fish fry

New Berlin - Holy Apostles will hold a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. March 29 in the gym at 159th and National Ave.

The menu will include baked or breaded cod, parsley potatoes or french fries, coleslaw, applesauce, rye bread, homemade dessert, milk and coffee. (Beer and soda cost extra). The cost is $10.50 general, $9.50 for seniors, $11.50 for a fish and shrimp combo, $5.25 for ages 5 to 12, and $2.75 for ages 4 and younger.

The final fish fry of the season will be held April 12.

Construction firm to hold

free kitchen, bath seminar

Muskego - Remodeling company Callen Construction will present a free seminar titled "Kitchens & Bathrooms That Function, Look Good, and Feel Good" at 11 a.m. April 6 at its Muskego Showroom, W13131 Janesville Road.

The seminar will include trends in cabinetry organization, plumbing and lighting fixtures and finishes, using islands to create a central kitchen gathering space, and selecting products. The workshop also will cover creating layouts for work stations and traffic flow for different cooking and entertaining styles.

The seminar will feature a panel discussion by award-winning Callen designers. They will answer specific kitchen and bath questions.

Dance classes aim

for cardio fitness

Muskego - The Tudor Oaks Retirement Community, W12929 McShane Drive, in collaboration with Muskego Park and Recreation Department, is holding dance/fitness classes to Latin/international music and rhythms like salsa and meringue.

The class is designed for seniors and beginners who want better cardiovascular fitness. If needed, people can participate while seated in a chair.

Remaining sessions will be 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays through April 8; and April 15 through May 20.

Middle school performs

'Pirates of Penzance'

Muskego - The students of Lake Denoon Middle School will present "Pirates of Penzance Junior" at 7 p.m. April 12 and at 2 p.m. April 13 in the Muskego High School Performing Arts Center, S8750 Racine Ave.

Admission is $7 general or $5 for seniors and students. Discounted tickets will be available in advance at the PAC box office from 5 to 6 p.m. April 8 to 11.

Cooper shops

remembered in talk

New Berlin - Gary and Jim Hess will tell the story of the family's historic cooper shops, Frank Hess Cooperage, at 6:30 p.m. April 23 in the New Berlin Public Library, 15105 Library Lane.

The speakers are Frank Hess' grandsons, who will use old photos and tools as part of the free presentation.

At one point, the small settlement of New Berlin contained 14 cooper shops that made barrels and other vessels. Cooper shops were an essential component of settlement history and one of those 14 shops was the site of early town meetings.

Casino night to raise

splashpad funds

New Berlin - "Viva Splash Vegas," a New Berlin Casino Night fundraiser for a splashpad in New Berlin's Malone Park, will be held from 6:30 to 11 p.m. April 27 at the New Berlin Ale House Banquet Center, 16000 W. Cleveland Ave.

Tickets are $50 per person (age 21 and up) and are available online at

The New Berlin Junior Woman's Club event will include a silent auction, raffles and "The Best Wine Cork Pull and Fork Pull in New Berlin."

Admission includes dancing to the tunes of DJ Jeff Keller and appetizers.

Spring dance

slated for disabled

New Berlin - A baseball-themed free dance for developmentally disabled people at least 16 years old will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. May 5 in the Holy Apostles Parish gym, 3875 S. 159th St.

Music will be provided by Dalgren's D. J. Service and there will also be free refreshments and door prizes. Baseball attire is optional. Parents or legal guardians are encouraged to attend.

plant sales slated

New Berlin - Hanging basket flower sales will be held by the New Berlin Junior Woman's Club in May at the North Shore Bank, 15505 W. National Ave.

The sales will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. May 10 and 24 and 9 a.m. to noon May 11 and 25. The two early May sales will also feature planters and 6-inch pots while supplies last. Additonally, the two later sales will include 3.5-inch pots, flats, herbs, tomato plants and pepper plants, also while supplies last.

National Dash

comes flying back

New Berlin - The seventh annual New Berlin Junior Woman's Club National Dash, a 5K Run or a two-mile run/walk, will be held prior to the New Berlin Fourth of July parade.

The event starts at Malone Park at noon and goes down National Avenue. It will feature chip timing, a goodie bag, high-tech shirt, food and drink.

The cost is $20 for adults, $12 for children 12 and younger (including a high-tech T-shirt if registered prior to June 24). On race day, the cost is $25 and a shirt is not guaranteed. It will be free for anyone with a military ID. Pre-register online at

New Berlin - Registrations are being accepted for the weeklong Camp Invention, a program aimed at inspiring creativity and inventive thinking, to be held daily from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 8 to 12 at Ronald Reagan Elementary School, 4225 S. Calhoun Road.

The camp is open to children entering first through sixth grade

Jammin' fill chamber

Muskego - As the snow flies, the Muskego Area Chamber of Commerce is working on this summer's big outdoor block parties, Jammin' on Janesville.

Coordinators are in the chamber office every Wednesday evening to help businesses plan their 2013 Jammin' events and marketing.

Jammin' on Janesville provides businesses three summer events to showcase their products and services to residents.

Fall Harvest Art,

Craft Fair slated

New Berlin - The Fall Harvest Art and Craft Fair, sponsored by the New Berlin Junior Woman's Club, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at Ronald Reagan Elementary School, 4225 S. Calhoun Road.

More than 120 crafters will sell their creations and a bake sale and refreshments will be offered.

Admission is $2. Proceeds will be donated back to the community.

Dementia caregivers

support group offered

New Berlin - A new caregiver support group sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at the New Berlin Public Library, 15105 Library Lane.

A group will provide an open forum for caregivers or family members to voice concerns and ask questions about Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.

In addition to the emotional, educational and social support provided, the meetings also will allow participants to develop problem-solving skills.

The support group also is open to all family members and there is no cost to attend.
