New website will help people track Muskego's city government

Muskego - One of the elements the new year will bring is a new era of government transparency, said Muskego Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti.

The additional transparency into the workings of government is essential, Chiaverotti said.

"Communication is an important part of life and doing business," she said.

Among other features, the city's new website, which should go live soon, will enable residents to get background information and keep an eye on issues that are important to them.

The website will also enable residents to have pertinent information sent to their homes electronically using email. For example, if they want to know when a matter is considered by the Plan Commission, they can ask that Plan Commission agendas be sent, Chiaverotti said.

Eventually, website users will be able to call up Common Council agendas and click on the issue they are interested in and view the entire council discussion of it, she added.

Although people aren't crazy about paying taxes, water bills and fees, the new website will at least make the task more convenient. Soon, it will be able to accept online payments for just about every type of fee and tax the city has.

And if people need to let the city know about something like a fallen tree or if they simply need something, all they will have to do is get online and their information and requests will automatically go to the right person, Chiaverotti said.

Because the city will be able to track when requests come in, the hope is that quicker responses will be encouraged, she said.

Quicker responses from the public also could be the result of the new website. Police crime alerts can be shot out to those who request them so more eyes could be combing the streets within minutes, she said.

Alerts also could be given for traffic accidents so that people can take alternate routes - including those tied to the second phase of the Janesville Road widening project this year, Chiaverotti said.
