Residents to vote on Muskego-Norway's 2009-10 levy
School officials asking for 2.91 percent increase
Muskego — Residents attending the annual meeting of the Muskego-Norway School District will be asked to approve a 2009-10 property tax levy that calls for a 2.91 percent increase for school purposes, according to the latest figures available from the School District.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 26.
After the state aid cuts that left Muskego-Norway with $1.6 million less revenue, the board reduced the potential levy increase of 7.7 percent down to the 2.91 percent.
The proposed levy stands at $32.8 million, up from the previous $31.9 million.
The proposed 2009-2010 budget includes no program cuts, Scot Ecker, director of business services, said. It also freezes administrators' salaries at current levels.
Overall spending for 2009-10 would increase 1.16 percent with total spending of $67.3 million.
The general fund, or operating budget, would be 1.2 percent higher than the 2008-09 school year. The proposed general fund is $52.25 million, compared with the $51.6 million the year before.
The budget also would eliminate a half-time assistant position, and not fill an open regular education aide position. It also calls for accepting up to 24 nonresident students through the state Open Enrollment program. Adding the new students would not mean hiring more teachers or increasing class sizes, Ecker said. The students would fill vacant seats.
