'Men at Work' fundraiser benefits HAWS

The theme of the recent fundraiser to benefit the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County, "Men at Work," referred to the construction project at the shelter on Northview Road in Waukesha. The addition to the facility will help HAWS assist the more than 6,000 animals that receive help annually and the 3l,000 people who visit the shelter annually. A nonprofit organization, HAWS was founded in l965.

Olympia Resort was the scene of the event, which featured a sushi bar, food buffets, raffles, a casino gaming area and an adoptable pet meet 'n' greet area. The Boogie Men provided music for the benefit.

Some of those attending the fundraiser included Steve Weber, Karen Munson, Patricia Gardner and Donald Boedeker, all of Brookfield; Susan and Lee Kidder, Traci Huntemann-Piatt and Joe Piatt, Ann Norlin, and Karen and David Schmid, all of Waukesha; Linda Luhman, Susan and Chris Allen, and Susan Bartel, all of Oconomowoc; Lora Caracci, Ellen and Jim Pedersen, and Laurie and Steven Flatt, all of Hartland; and Thomas Ehlers and Julie and Craig Connelly, all of Pewaukee.

Among the committee members arranging the benefit were Sabrina Bryant and Jessica Pinkos of Brookfield, Amanda Hecyk of Mukwonago, Lisa Jorgensen of Hartland, Kimberly Kalcynski, Jane Kohl and Jennifer Smieja of Waukesha, and Carol Wehrman and Zoe Werner of Oconomowoc.
