City hires consultant to draw up plans for park on the lake
A consulting firm will be hired for up to $6,000 to develop a site plan for a city park along Little Muskego Lake along with complementary commercial uses.
The Muskego Common Council on Tuesday voted to hire R.A. Smith National which will consult with city officials and groups and individuals who have a stake in the lake.
The consultant will likely have a report in four to six weeks, Mayor John Johnson predicted. An extensive review by various city boards and commissions will follow. R.A. Smith National was the low bidder among four consulting firms asked for proposals.
City officials applaud the opportunity to buy lakefront property and fulfill a call in the newly approved Muskego 2020 comprehensive plan to "bring back the lake." A park would make it possible to see Little Muskego Lake from Janesville Road as well as be a gathering place and a nucleus for a downtown, they said.
Officials see the commercial part of the plan as a way to offset any loss of tax base from potentially razing four homes.
The property is along Janesville Road near Pioneer Drive.
