Recreation path moves slightly in Pioneer project

Based on public input, two changes will be made in the plans for a Pioneer Drive road project this summer, the Muskego Public Works Committee decided Monday.

An eight-foot-wide recreation path, which will be created along the stretch of Pioneer from Racine Avenue north almost to Janesville Road, will be moved to the road side, instead of the home side, of the drainage ditch. The path will be separated from the road by the shoulder and a five-foot grassy area.

At a public information meeting held earlier, residents had asked if that path could be farther from their homes, said Alderman Noah Fiedler, committee chairman. It will cost $3,300 to redesign the path.

As long as the cost is reasonable and the relocated path is still within acceptable design standards, it makes sense for the path to be moved, Fiedler said.

Residents asked for the northern portion of Pioneer will be reconstructed a little narrower than its current configuration.
