Muskego - The 2012 season started well for the Muskego girls tennis team with a victory in its own quadrangular on Saturday.
The Warriors tallied 17 points to beat New Berlin Eisenhower's 13, Oak Creek's 10 and Wilmot's two.
Muskego topped Eisenhower, 6-1; Oak Creek, 5-2; and Wilmot, 6-1, in team duals.
"We knew New Berlin was going to be our toughest match this quad," head coach Sue Vogel said. "Last year, we lost to (the Lions), and this year, we were hoping to do better."
Amy Upthagrove claimed the first singles championship with a 3-0 mark. Emily Kleist took second singles at 3-0, Jessie West third singles at 3-0 and Lisa Krawczyk fourth singles with a 2-1 record.
"Kleist, West and Krawczyk all had to pull out tight matches in the third-set super-tiebreaker," Vogel said. "Tennis frequently comes down to a few points and winning these points swung the whole tournament in our direction."
In doubles, the third team of Megan Hunjadi and Erica Baldwin won its flight at 3-0 and the fourth unit of Samantha Spencer and Jessica Wigand prevailed at 3-0.
The first unit of Natalie Radloff and Elizabeth Jacoby went 1-2 and the second team of Julie Dusold and Jessica Klamecki finished 2-1.
"On paper, we should be a very strong team this season," Vogel said, "but you always hope that translates into real wins on the court. Winning this tournament, I would say we are off to a very good start."
