Muskego - All aspects of the game came together for the Muskego boys volleyball team as it won the Kenosha Tremper Invitational on Saturday.
"We played well as a team, a whole unit," head coach Joe Arbinger said. "Our hitters were efficient, and our setters put up a good ball, which they could do because our passing was good."
The Warriors downed Greendale, 25-17, 25-16, in the title match after topping Kenosha Bradford, 25-13, 25-15, in the semifinal and Neenah, 25-18, 25-10, in the quarterfinal.
Muskego also went 6-0 in pool play, defeating Appleton West, 25-13, 25-12; Racine St. Catherine's, 25-8, 25-18; and Waukesha North, 25-11, 25-12.
"Our scores indicate how well we played, keeping everyone (opponents) in the teens," Arbinger said.
Tony Mack led the team in kills with 41, followed by Sammy Pedersen with 30 and Al Grunert with 27. Ryan Alvine collected 60 assists and Matt Pedersen 57 assists, while Mack totaled 14 aces. Sean Tobin tallied 12 blocks and AJ Pratt 10.
Muskego lost its first Classic 8 Conference meet of the season with a 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 19-25, 15-9 decision at Catholic Memorial on Sept. 27.
Mack posted 36 kills, Sammy Pedersen 20 and Steve Cotton 15. Tobin had 13 blocks and Pratt 10 blocks.
"That was the best I've seen Catholic Memorial play all year," Arbinger said. "They kept us off-balance and didn't make many mistakes. We made a lot of mistakes."
The defeat put Muskego in a four-way tie for the conference lead with Waukesha West, Memorial and Kettle Moraine at 3-1. The Warriors beat West earlier this season and will meet Kettle Moraine on the road at 7:15 p.m. Oct. 8.
