As the basketball season progresses, the Muskego boys need to find a way to win the close games.
The Warriors fell to Slinger, 56-52, on Friday in the first game of the New Berlin Classic Tournament at New Berlin West.
That was their fourth defeat by 10 points or less this season, including three by five or less points.
Muskego slipped to 3-6 overall. The Warriors met West Allis Hale on Saturday in the second game of the tourney, but that took place after press time for this edition.
The Warriors, who came into the holiday break at 1-4 in the Classic 8 Conference, resume league play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Arrowhead.
They then return home to take on Mukwonago, last season's WIAA Division 1 runnerup, at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10.
That begins a string of three straight home contests, as Muskego also welcomes New Berlin Eisenhower on Jan. 14 and Waukesha South on Jan. 17.
Against Slinger of the Little Ten Conference, Muskego had strong firepower at the top but not much scoring depth.
Turner Kehoe tallied a game-high 20 points, while Mike Vidmar put in 16 points and Brandon Glandt 14 points.
The only other scorer, though, was Caleb Berlyn with two points.
The game was close, as the Warriors trailed 24-20 at the half and came within 39-38 after three quarters.
The Owls, who were led by Josh Hau with 19 points and Sam Osterberg with 12 points, held on to win.
