Sports wrapups: July 2

Muskego baseball

The Brookfield Central Lancers were the fastest baseball team in the NOW coverage area to reach 20 wins this season. The Lancers are tied with Brookfield East for the fewest losses in the 12-team Greater Metro Conference and tied atop the North Division.

None of that mattered to the Muskego Warriors.

The host Warriors, 12-5 overall, 7-4 GMC entering this week, handed the Lancers (23-4) their most lopsided loss of the season, a 16-2 drubbing June 22.

The Warriors suffered no letdown following the big win and beat the West Allis Hale Huskies on consecutive days: 5-4 at Hale on June 25 and, 7-3, at home Friday.

Eisenhower baseball

About the only thing hotter than the weather last week were the New Berlin Eisenhower Lions.

The Lions rebounded from their 13-4 loss to New Berlin West on June 19 by winning five consecutive games, including four in the Woodland Conference. The winning streak boosted the Lions to 13-6 overall and 9-2 in the league, a half game behind league-leading New Berlin West in the league's Northern Division.

New Berlin Eisenhower capped the week with a 6-2 road win over Hamilton on Saturday, but it was the four previous victories - all league contests - that were most important.

Alex McRae struck out 11 over five shutout innings in the Lions' 10-0, five-inning shutout over the host Wauwatosa West Trojans on Friday.

The Lions held off a five-run seventh-inning rally to win, 8-7, at home against the Greendale Panthers on June 25.

The winning streak began with a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Brown Deer Falcons, 11-2 and 12-7, on June 23.
