Eisenhower football
The Lions remained in the hunt for the Woodland Conference Black Division title with a dominant 44-7 victory over the visiting Wauwatosa West Trojans on Friday.
Eisenhower (4-1 overall, 3-1 conference) rushed for 243 yards and five touchdowns, including a 109-yard, four-touchdown effort by Tyler Faber. Faber scored in each quarter, including a 16-yard scamper in the third that gave his team a 31-0 lead. He now has nine touchdowns this season (eight rushing).
Ian McKechnie kept his touchdown streak going with a 13-yard run in the second quarter. He has scored in all of the Lions' five games and also has nine touchdowns (eight receiving).
The win comes before the Lions' showdown with undefeated Whitnall (5-0, 4-0) with a share of first place at stake for Eisenhower. The teams meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Whitnall.
New Berlin West football
Steve Vogl's two first-half touchdown runs were just enough for the Vikings in their 13-6 victory over the host Cudahy Packers on Friday.
Vogl scored on a 24-yard run in the first quarter and a 2-yard plunge in the second to give the Vikings (3-2, 3-1) a 13-0 halftime lead. Cudahy scored its touchdown with 31 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
Vogl finished with 112 yards on 24 carries.
Jay Osvatic had 9.5 tackles and Bryan Thiessenhusen intercepted two passes for the Vikings, who won their third straight game.
The Vikings face a big test at 7 p.m. Friday when they host undefeated Pewaukee (5-0, 3-0).
Muskego football
On the same night the Muskego defense posted its best effort of the season, the offense sputtered and the Warriors remained winless with a 6-0 defeat against Racine Park at Hammes Field on Friday.
Park's Troy Collier scored from 4 yards out with 10 minutes, 52 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter for the game's only points.
The Warriors (0-5, 0-3) outgained the Panthers by 38 yards, 181-143. Trevor Hergert rushed 17 times for 73 yards for Muskego, which has lost 11 straight games and plays host to unbeaten Kenosha Bradford (5-0, 3-0) at 7 p.m. Friday. It is the Warriors' homecoming game.
Muskego girls volleyball
Waupun, the state's top-ranked Division 2 team defeated Muskego (ranked second in Division 1), 17-25, 25-18, 15-11, in the championship match of the Lynn LaPorte Sprawl in West Bend on Saturday.
Waupun bounced back from a rough start against Muskego by taking an 8-1 lead in the second game. Waupun went on a 5-0 run to pull ahead 9-5 in the deciding game. It closed out the game on a 5-2 run capped by a game-winning spike by senior outside hitter Bridget Nickel.
Muskego advanced by outlasting Watertown, ranked third in the state, 25-16, 16-25, 15-8, in the semifinals. The Warriors went on a 6-1 run to end the third game, thanks to a pair of kills by Rachel Neuberger and Katie Ellerson and a game-winner by Alli Glisch.
Muskego also improved to 3-0 in the Southeast Conference with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-3 home win over Racine Park on Sept. 22.
Muskego cross country
The Muskego girls had to settle twice for second place at their own 12-team invite Saturday.
The Warriors were runners-up to champion Homestead, 32-106, and junior Niki Drolshagen was second to Kenosha Bradford's Abigail Bullmore. Bullmore turned in a 15:01 and Drolshagen a 15:06.
Amy Klaus was 15th in 15:57 for the Warriors, and Abby Wichgers was 27th in 16:37.
For the boys, who were third of 12 teams behind Brookfield Central and Germantown, Alex York (16:26) and Mike O'Connor (16:34) ran sixth and seventh, followed by Austin Hackney (17:24) in 23rd.
New Berlin Eisenhower tennis
With two wins at the Oconomowoc Invite on Saturday, the Lions improved to 14-4-2 with the WIAA postseason on the horizon.
Eisenhower defeated the host school and Watertown by identical 6-1 scores on Saturday. The Lions also beat St. Francis, 6-1, in a Woodland Conference cross over match on Sept. 24.
The Lions have winning records at six of seven flights. Senior Allie Kleefisch is 12-7 at first singles with sophomore Lauren Slonac right behind at 12-6 at seconds singles and freshman Hanna Muche at 13-4 at fourth singles.
Megan Saksefski and Reina Maruko are 12-6 in the top doubles flight. Molly Smith and Becky Dobrzynski are 3-0 at second doubles after a season-ending knee injury to Sara Brown brought the two together last week. And Anna Hahn and Andrea Ganzke are 12-3 at third doubles.
New Berlin West swimming
Behind a victorious 400-yard freestyle relay and two second-place efforts, the Vikings placed third at the Woodland Conference Relays at Cudahy on Sept. 23.
Leah Kritter, Katie Hausmann, Stephanie De La Pena and Corey Wannamaker won the 400 in 3 minutes, 53.27 seconds. Taking seconds for the Vikings were the diving trio of Hausmann, Savanah Heitmann and Kelsey Dickinson (281.95 points) and the 300 backstroke relay of Jennifer Kozlowski, Lindsey Rodenkirk, Sydney Hider and Wannamaker (3:15.87).
Kritter, Hider, Hausmann and Wannamaker were third in the 200 free (1:47.19) as were Rodenkirk, Chloe Banholzer, De La Pena and Kozlowski in the 400 medley relay (4:37.36).
Shorewood won the 12-team meet with 310 points. Whitnall was second with 272 followed by the Vikings 262.
Eisenhower swimming
Eisenhower freshmen Emily Lancaster and Gina Lupo teamed with sophomores Maddie Peterson and Allie Bellford to take third in the 200 medley relay at the Woodland Conference Relays at Cudahy on Sept. 23.
The quad of underclassmen finished in 2:05.76 and were tied for the team's best finish at the meet. The 100 freestyle unit of Peterson, Samantha Rottel, Katie Bartels and Bellford were also third in 51.54 as the Vikings took seventh of 12 teams with 202 points.
New Berlin West tennis
The Vikings picked up a nonconference victory over crosstown foe New Berlin Eisenhower, 4-3, at home Sept. 21.
Markelle Grabo, Emily Young and Lora Daskalska won at first, third and fourth singles for the Vikings. Also victorious was the third doubles team of Susan Schumacher and Jesse Tofte.
In a league cross over match, only Kelsey King and Nicolet Tierney at second doubles could pull out a victory in a 6-1 loss to host Wauwatosa West on Sept. 24.
The Vikings finished 3-5 in the Woodland Conference and 6-10 overall.
Eisenhower cross country
The Lions showed a 90-second improvement over their performance from a year ago and took second at the Kettle Moraine Laser Invite at Nagawaukee Park on Saturday.
Sammy Woller ran ninth in 15 minutes, 54.36 seconds; Catherine Michaletz ran a personal-best 16:12.86 good for 17th; and Therese Thompson ran 16:15.09 for 18th. Eisenhower coach Bob Goodmann was pleased with the improvement but said if his team is going to compete for the Woodland Conference or sectional titles, that trio needs to be higher and runners four through seven need to be well under 17 minutes.
Kevin Plasak's personal best of 19:35.78 led the Lions boys, who were eighth.
West girls volleyball
A pair of league victories had the Vikings boasting an undefeated conference record as they entered this, the final week of the regular season.
New Berlin West beat visiting St. Thomas More, 27-25, 25-15, 25-13, Sept. 22, and host Brown Deer, 25-13, 25-18, 25-17, two days later to improve to 5-0 in Woodland Conference play, 14-5 overall.
Against previously unbeaten Thomas More, the Vikings trailed 14-5 and 24-18 in the first game before storming back and held on in the next two games to take over first place in the Blue Division.
West's Melissa McGroarty tallied three aces and 22 assists. Freshmen Casey Luehrs (team-high 14 kills) and Kellie Shaw (team-high 18 digs) continued to impress.
Muskego swimming
Jessica Wolf led the Warriors' to their third straight Southeast Conference blowout victory, this time a 146-37 thumping of visiting Racine Park on Sept. 22.
Wolf won the 200 freestyle (1:59.69) and the 500 free (5:10.19) and was also on a pair of winning relays. She teamed with Emma Szczupakiewicz, Megan Liebl and Sami Pochowski for a win in the 200 free relay (1:42.82) and with Kristen Kaiser, Brittany Walsh and Pochowski for first in the 400 free (3:50.08).
Walsh also won the 200 individual medley (2:15.50) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.72) as the Warriors improved to 3-0.
