New Berlin West boys basketball

The Vikings' strong second half propelled them to their fifth-straight win Jan. 19.

West outscored host Slinger, 33-16, after halftime en route to a 49-35 victory.

Chad Mathwig led all players with 16 points and Dustin Elias tallied 11, including three 3-pointers for the Vikings, who improved to 10-5, surpassed last year's win total (9-12) and have not lost since Dec. 30.

New Berlin Eisenhower boys basketball

Eisenhower showed off its long-distance shooting skills in a 25-point win at St. Francis on Friday.

The Lions made 10 3-pointers, including three by Brian York (14 points) and two each by Alex McRae (13), Justin Weiland (nine) and Mitch Sperka (six) en route to a 65-40 win.

Keith Kahlfeldt added 11 points for the Lions, who remained unbeaten and improved to 14-0 overall, 11-0 conference.

Muskego girls basketball

The Warriors quickly put their first Southeast Conference loss in more than two years behind them.

The Warriors (9-3, 5-1) handed host Racine Case its first league loss, 69-55, Friday, after Muskego's 25-game Southeast Conference win streak was snapped at home by Oak Creek on Jan. 19.

Against Case, Katie Ellerson (21 points) and Sarah Mlachnik (18) combined for 39 points for the victors, including seven of the team's eight 3-pointers. Samantha Logic had a game-high 23 points for Case (9-3, 6-1).

Three days earlier, Oak Creek rallied for a 47-43 win, Muskego's first league loss since Jan. 8, 2008.

Muskego led, 29-26, after three quarters but Oak Creek's Ashley Luke (eight) and Angela Rodriguez (seven) dominated the final quarter, combining for 15 of the Knights' 21 points. Luke finished with a team-high 15.

Ellerson had 17 points, but no other Muskego player had more than seven.

New Berlin Eisenhower girls basketball

The Lions' impressive string of blowouts continued with a 73-30 drubbing of visiting St. Francis on Friday.

Undefeated Eisenhower (14-0, 11-0) broke open a close game with a 24-3 second-quarter advantage, and four players reached double digits: Megan Tkachuk (15 points), Anna Hahn (12), Kali Shandley (11) and Amy Borkenhagen (10).

It was the Lions' fifth-straight win of 29 points or more and eighth this season.

New Berlin wrestling

Two New Berlin wrestlers won titles to help their team take fourth at the 13-squad Homestead Invitational on Saturday.

Both Zach Brucker at 135 and Nick Binder at 171 dominated the opposition en route to five wins each and titles in their respective weight classes. Brucker tallied three pins to start his day, picked up a major decision in the semifinals and then beat Oconomowoc's Taylor Mommaerts, 8-2, in the championship match.

Binder sneaked out a 5-4 win in the finals against Menomonee Falls' Korey Kleinhans, but recorded two pins and two major decisions prior to that.

New Berlin's Nick From was pinned in the finals at 285 and finished second. New Berlin's Hlu Vang (103) was third and Heng Vang (112) fourth.

New Berlin also won 11 of 14 matches en route to a 53-16 win over the Wauwatosa co-op at Wauwatosa West on Jan. 20. New Berlin improved to 7-0 in Woodland Conference duals and faces unbeaten Pewaukee for the conference dual title Wednesday.

Muskego swimming

The Warriors began this week one win away from a perfect Southeast Conference season after disposing of up-and-coming Oak Creek, 116-69, at home Jan. 19.

The trio of Bobby Wolf, Brian Roberts and Patrick Walsh led once again; all three won two individual races and were on Muskego's winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3 minutes, 34.67 seconds).

Wolf also won the 200 (1:55.10) and 500 (5:01.47) frees and was on the victorious 200 medley relay (1:47.44); Roberts claimed the 50 (23.92) and 100 (53.15) frees; and Walsh took the 200 individual medley (2:06.76) and 100 butterfly (59.26).

New Berlin West girls basketball

Ten different players scored for the suddenly hot Vikings, who won for the third straight time with a 63-44 nonconference victory at Wilmot on Friday.

Martha Radtke scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and Hailey Kunz had 12 for West (8-5, 7-4), helping offset a huge night by Wilmot's Jackie Herman.

Herman made three 3s and had a game-high 31 points, but none of her teammates scored more than four points.

Muskego boys basketball

Max Miskowiec's big week resulted in a split for the Warriors.

Miskowiec's game-high 18 points and 13 from Danny Frawley were not enough for Muskego in a 62-55 loss to visiting Racine Case on Friday.

Three Eagles scored in double digits, led by Mitchell Farr's 17.

Three nights earlier, however, Miskowiec led a balanced Muskego attack that resulted in a 55-40 road win at Oak Creek. He tallied 14 points and teammates Jake Pope and Frawley added 12 each for the Warriors (5-10, 3-4).
