New Berlin Eisenhower girls basketball

Visiting Pewaukee made 19-of-24 free throws in the fourth quarter to knock New Berlin Eisenhower from the ranks of the unbeatens with a 59-52 Woodland Conference victory on Saturday.

Pewaukee sophomore Jordan Swan, who was scoreless until making a 3-point shot from the left side with 5:02 remaining that widened Pewaukee's lead to 40-33, made 12-of-16 free throws, including a stretch of nine in a row, during the final 4:16.

The Lions (14-1, 11-1) shot 14-of-60 (23 percent) from the field and never seemed to get in sync offensively after bouncing back from an early 11-2 deficit to take an 18-11 lead.

"We weren't very patient," Lions coach Gary Schmidt told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "We took 20 3-point shots, which is definitely not our game. We also didn't expect to put them on the free-throw line that much. Generally, our speed on defense prevents that from happening. So, give Pewaukee credit for making us foul them."

Eisenhower's Anna Hahn hit 11-of-13 free throws and finished with a game-high 20 points. Kali Shandley and Amy Borkenhagen contributed eight rebounds each.

The Warriors closed out their perfect Southeast Conference regular season with a dominant, 55-21, win over visiting Racine Case on Jan. 28.

Muskego opened the dual with five straight pins - one each from Ryan Leighton (285), Tyler Sinda (103), Tyler Dotzler (112), Justin Scherkenbach (119) and Ryan Zainer (125) - to take a commanding 30-0 lead.

The win improved Muskego to 7-0 in the SEC.

The Warriors also won five individual titles and took fourth of nine teams at the Pewaukee Invitational on Saturday.

Sinda, Scherkenbach, Jordan Lau (145), Roland Dunlap (171) and Jordan Gruettner (189) all took first for Muskego, which will compete in the SEC tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday at Racine Horlick.

Muskego girls basketball

Despite 22 turnovers and perhaps its worst offensive game of the season, Muskego pulled out a 38-27 road win at Franklin on Friday and remained tied with Racine Case for the Southeast Conference lead.

Junior guard Alyssa Colla scored eight of her game-high 13 points in the second half, and Katie Ellerson finished with 10 as the Warriors improved to 11-3 overall, 7-1 conference.

"I'm pleased with the defense, no doubt about that. We've been playing pretty great defense the last few weeks," Muskego coach Brian Hirtz said. "Offense, I don't really worry too much. These kids can light it up and make plays for us and make things happen. It was just one of those games where shots weren't falling, but we got to the line and made some free throws."

Franklin took a 22-20 lead with 6 minutes, 55 seconds left in the third quarter on Taylor Atkinson's drive to the hoop. But Muskego turned up the defensive intensity and went on an 11-0 run that put the Sabers away. Muskego's strong third quarter helped erase a terrible second quarter during which the Warriors made just one of 12 shots, eight of which were 3-pointers.

The Warriors also trounced visiting Racine Horlick, 60-34, at home behind Ellerson's 18 points and Colla and Sarah Mlachnik's 12 apiece on Jan. 26.

The Warriors did not finish the Southeast Conference with seven wins in seven tries, but they did not have a blemish on their record either.

Muskego and host Racine Case settled for a 93-93 tie Jan. 26; the Warriors finished 6-0-1.

Muskego's Bobby Wolf had his hand in four wins. He won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.79 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 58.10. He was also on the winning 200 medley (1:48.71) and 400 free (3:30.37) relays.

Patrick Walsh claimed the 200 free (1:51.34) and 500 free (4:55.26) and was a member of the 400 free relay and Kyle Iglinski took the 200 individual medley (2:06.53) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.17) and was on the winning 200 medley relay.

Muskego boys basketball

Franklin's Nick Romanowski's 30 points could not alone offset Muskego's offensive balance in the Warriors' 73-58 home win Friday.

Three players, led by Jake Pope's 22, scored 13 points or more for the Warriors, who improved to 6-10 overall, 4-4 conference entering this week. The 73 points were a season high.

Muskego excelled in the second half, outscoring Franklin by 13.

The Warriors hit seven 3-pointers. Pope and Max Miskowiec (13 points) hit two each; Danny Frawley (14) hit three.

New Berlin West girls basketball

West center Stephanie Turner scored a game-high 20 points in only nine minutes to lead the Vikings to a 68-36 rout of host Shorewood on Friday.

It was the fourth straight win for the Vikings, who improved to 9-5 overall, 8-4 conference as of Monday.

New Berlin wrestling

New Berlin's hopes for a perfect Woodland Conference dual season ended in the season finale at unbeaten Pewaukee on Jan. 27.

The Pirates tallied three pins en route to a 40-21 victory that improved Pewaukee's record to 8-0; New Berlin finished 7-1, 16-6 overall.

New Berlin's 285-pounder Nick From recorded his team's lone pin.
