Waukesha Choral Union Auditions Announced For Second Half of 2012-2013 Season

Dec. 18, 2012

The Waukesha Choral Union (WCU) will hold open auditions for the second half of the 2012-2013 Season on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013, at 7p.m. They will be held at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2016 Center Road, Waukesha, WI, 53189. To schedule an audition contact the membership chairperson by e-mail at membership@choralunion.org or call 262-893-6309.

Scheduled auditions with music director Ernest Brusubardis III, will last 10 minutes and include vocal exercises, simple music sight-reading, and part-singing. Preparation of a solo is encouraged but not required. An accompanist will be provided. “The Waukesha Choral Union derives its strength and quality from its members’ passion for singing and is always seeking new voices,” said Brusubardis. “We’ve got great music to perform in this second half of the season; ‘Messiah’ with orchestra, chorus and soloists on March 17, and Haydn’s ‘Little Organ Mass,’ excerpts of Handel’s ‘Chandos Anthems,’ and a new commissioned work by Paula Foley Tillen on May 4.”

All prospective members are invited to an open rehearsal on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church. This will be an opportunity to see how a rehearsal is run, followed by a reception to mix and mingle with current members and enjoy refreshments.

Two concerts will be performed in the second semester of the 2011-2012 Season:
“HANDEL’S ‘MESSIAH’”
Sunday, Mar. 17, 2013, 3:00 p.m. FREE CONCERT
Shattuck Auditorium, Carroll University, Waukesha

“SOMETHING OLD & SOMETHING NEW”
Saturday, May 4, 2013, 8:00 p.m.
Shattuck Auditorium, Carroll University, Waukesha

Ernest Brusubardis, III, artistic director of the Waukesha Choral Union, is a graduate of UW-Milwaukee with the Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Music and the Master’s Degree in Music Education with an emphasis on choral conducting. His other choral directorships include the advanced ensembles of Hartford Union High School and the Brusubardis-Dzimtene Latvian Choir. He also serves as music director for many community theater productions throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.

Waukesha Choral Union has been musically active in the community for over 60 years. WCU was featured in WISN-TV’s “Season to Celebrate” broadcast during Christmas of 2011. Originally a combination of Carroll College students and community singers, it took its present form as an auditioned choir in 1978. Waukesha Choral Union derives its strength and quality from its members’ passion for singing and is always seeking new voices. Auditions are held by appointment. Recent collaborative partners include the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Oconomowoc Chamber Orchestra, Bel Canto Chorus, Milwaukee Choristers, Carroll University Choirs, and the choirs of Waukesha South High School, Muskego High School, and Hartford Union High School.
