Winners of the 47th annual Waukesha County Courthouse Purchase Award Art Contest

Christine Thomsen, a Sussex Artist, was the winner of the 47th Annual Waukesha County Courthouse Purchase Award Art Contest for 2013. The Courthouse purchased this best in show painting for $350 and it becomes a part of their permanent collection. This annual contest is sponsored by Waukesha County and the Waukesha Creative Arts League and is open to non-professional Waukesha County artists 18 years and older. The show hung in the Waukesha County Courthouse for the month of October and winners were announced on October 17.

Shown in the photo is Christine with County Executive Dan Vrakas, standing in front of her acrylic on masonite artwork “Stone And Snow”.

Second place winner Jan Wood of Muskego is shown with her egg tempera painting “Fading Away – Endangered Wood Stork”.

Winning 3rd place was Jane Mundschau of Waukesha for her oil painting “West Virginia Hills”.

Honorable Mentions were awarded to Shannon Finger of Waukesha, Barbara Rewa of New Berlin, Leona Roesch, New Berlin, Shirley Kroening, Waukesha, Ann Blewett, Brookfield, and Jean Pascek, Brookfield. Four additional artists were recognized by Judge Jeff Homar: Katie Acker, Joan Jenquin, Nancy Peterson, and Katie Wood Zientek.

Additional awards for People’s Choice and a Fellow Artist Award were won by Jan Wood for a second egg tempera “Circle of Life – Sand Hill Cranes”.

The Waukesha Creative Arts League holds informal meetings where participants learn through art demonstrations and critiques by local artists, teachers and professionals. WCAL artists have opportunities to exhibit their work locally as well as submit artwork into contests. WCAL meets monthly from September through May at the Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin building in the Service Center meeting room, 1400 Nike Drive, Waukesha (corner of Nike Dr. and East Main Street). The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. September thru May. Come to a meeting and learn more about the Waukesha Creative Arts League.
