Muskego Executive Shares the Power of a Wish
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin’s 2009 Walk and Run for Wishes, taking place Saturday August 22nd, is something local Muskego resident, Brian Trexell, puts his heart into. Trexell, who has worked with the Foundation for nearly ten years and is approaching his second year serving as chairman of the board of Wisconsin’s chapter, has felt the reward of giving back to his community through helping bring hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions. And he says that this event is a way for nearly everyone to do the same.
“The Walk and Run for Wishes is such a great day. There is something for everyone and every age,” Trexell said. “After participating in this event once, you love it. It’s almost as if you get bitten by the bug, and that keeps bringing you back.”
Not only has Trexell recruited his family to be part of the day, but he also has inspired others from his work place, Robert W. Baird & Company, to get involved and become more familiar with what the Make-A-Wish Foundation is all about.
“Baird has a long history with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin,” Trexell said. “Before I even started working there, Baird had participated in other events that the Foundation hosted throughout the year, so when I started working, it was easy for me to become involved with them.”
Although the Walk and Run for Wishes requires extensive preparation and hard work on the day of the event, Trexell says he loves being a part of the community aspect. “It’s a great way for me to meet wish families and volunteers,” Trexell said. “Everyone rolls up their sleeves and gets straight to work, and by the end of the day, you really see the fruit of your labor.”
Walk and Run for Wishes will begin at the north gate of the Henry Maier Festival Park and continue along Milwaukee’s lakefront. Registration will open at 8:30 a.m., and the Walk and Run begins at 10 am. Entertainment for all ages will be available throughout the morning, including a kid’s dash for kids eight and under at 9:00 a.m. Participants can also join in a raffle drawing, and awards will be given to individuals and teams who collect the most pledges.
Trexell will join Honorary Chairman, FOX 6 Chief Meteorologist Vince Condella and presenting sponsor, Badger Mutual Insurance Company in welcoming an anticipated crowd of 2,500 people from across the state.
Trexell believes that even in light of a weak economy, it will still be a rewarding experience for anyone who gets involved. “Everyone can join for different reasons, but in the end, we are all working toward a common goal, and that is rewarding,” Trexell said.
